Dental Crowns

A dental crown, also called a cap, is necessary when a filling isn’t enough to fix the tooth. It is essentially a cover placed over the remaining part of your natural tooth or teeth. A tooth having had a root canal needs additional support, and a crown and post provide that.

Additionally, damage due to trauma may require a crown. All-porcelain crowns can also be used to replace old metal fillings. Crowns are matched to your natural tooth color. In addition to strengthening damaged or decayed teeth, dental crowns can also hold a dental bridge in place.

Creation of Dental Crowns

Dr. Palmer uses a state-of-the-art machine called CEREC®3 to create the crown using 3-D imaging software. Rather than using a tray of impression clay for you to bite into, digital pictures are taken and then sent to the in-office milling station where the actual crown is created to your individual specifications.

This one-visit crown creation is so that you don’t have to take time out of your busy schedule to have your crown placed. The creation of multiple crowns will usually require two appointments. Larger cases may call for a full mouth reconstruction.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is often a good solution to replace several missing teeth at once. A dental bridge helps keep your teeth from shifting toward the gap and supports your existing teeth from further decay or damage. River Bluff Dental can do all-porcelain dental bridges that are much more natural looking than other options. A porcelain bridge is attached to anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) which support the artificial teeth (pontics). These artificial teeth are crowns that will fill the gap created by your missing teeth.

With CEREC® state-of-the-art technology, it is now possible for Dr. Palmer to create impression-free dental bridges. This is because CEREC creates a 3-D model of your mouth that is extremely precise. With a precise 3-D model of the teeth that need a bridge, you can have the bridge placed more quickly and without the need for an extra step to create the impression for the lab.
