Dental Bonding

Your smile is one of the most important aspects of your face. When any of your teeth become damaged or you feel uncomfortable with the way your teeth look or function, you may feel the need to hide your smile. At River Bluff Dental, Dr. Walter Palmer and our professional staff is expertly trained and experienced in helping people restore their smiles and their self-confidence through dental bonding.

Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that allows dentists to sculpt a tooth to a more desired size, shape and color using composite resin. When performed by a respectable cosmetic dentist, other people may never know you have had this procedure done to one or more of your teeth.

Uses for Dental Bonding

There are a variety of dental situations that are perfect for the dental bonding procedure, including:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Small or narrow teeth

This process can be used for front or back teeth to fill cavities, strengthen damaged teeth or make the teeth more aesthetically pleasing.

Dental Bonding Procedure

When Dr. Palmer has identified that you are a good candidate for dental bonding, he will discuss exactly how the composite resin will be shaped to your tooth so you will have a good idea of what your enhanced smile will look like. You will also be involved in the color selection to ensure that the end result will integrate with the rest of your teeth.

During the procedure, the tooth enamel is slightly etched so the composite resin will form a more solid bond with the tooth. Dr. Palmer then begins to sculpt the resin on the tooth to the desired shape and size. A special high-intensity light is used to harden the resin onto the tooth. This process is repeated several times.

The last step in the process involves Dr. Palmer trimming, smoothing and polishing the restored tooth to match your other teeth.

The dental bonding process takes approximately one hour per tooth and patients go home the same day with the dental restoration in place.
