Gum Recontouring

When you look at your smile in the mirror, is it your teeth that smile back or does your gum line interfere? A person can have very healthy teeth that do not showcase their full potential because of a thick or uneven gum line. In fact, a “gummy smile” can actually make the teeth appear unhealthy. At River Bluff Dental, we have a quick, safe and extremely effective way to recontour your gum line and give you a new reason to smile.

Gum Recontouring and Lasers

Gum recontouring of the past was a painful procedure that involved the use of a scalpel in the hands of the dentist. Recovery time was lengthy and the chance for infection was always present.

Today respectable cosmetic dentists have thrown away their scalpels in exchange for the more precise and comfortable method of laser gum recontouring. At River Bluff Dental we implement the state-of-the-art Odyssey 810 diode laser in our office to radically change a patient’s smile in just one quick office visit.

The diode laser reshapes the gum line by gently removing healthy gum tissue. As the laser cuts it simultaneously cauterizes (closes) the incisions which results in less bleeding. The risk for infection is greatly reduced with this process.

A gum recontouring patient may have slightly swollen or sore gums for a few days after the procedure.

Reasons for Gum Recontouring

Having a uniform gum line can drastically change the appearance of your smile. If you look at each one of your teeth individually, the gums should frame each tooth to display an even smile. If the gum line is falling lower on one or more of your teeth, the laser gum recontouring process can remove the excess gum to make your teeth look longer and healthier.

Laser gum recontouring is used on healthy gums. If a patient is suffering from gum disease, this process is not viable.

Laser Experience is Key

Even though the laser gum recontouring process is quick, it is still very important to have the process done by an individual who is fully trained and certified in the laser process. At River Bluff Dental, our professional team has completed specialized training in the Odyssey diode laser, so you can place your full confidence in our abilities.

Dr. Palmer always informs each patient exactly how the diode laser will be used on each tooth what final results the patient can expect.
