Porcelain Veneers

Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eden Prairie, and Edina, Minnesota

In an ideal world, we would all have perfect teeth that are impervious to any type of internal or external forces. Of course, we all know this is not the case. Heredity, lifestyle choices and tooth trauma can create unpleasant dental situations such as:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Severely discolored teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Misaligned teeth

At River Bluff Dental, we realize that going through life with any of these dental problems can be a blow to your self image. Dr. Walter Palmer has helped hundreds of patients regain their ability to smile with confidence through the implementation of porcelain veneers. It is important to Dr. Palmer that each patient fully understands how porcelain veneers can realistically change the look of their smiles and integrate with their existing teeth.

Porcelain Veneer Process

Porcelain veneers are very thin fingernail plates made of ceramic that are placed over the existing teeth to mask problems and create a flawless smile. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Porcelain veneers are custom made in a dental laboratory to match the size, shape and color of your existing teeth for a natural appearance. They can also be made to perfect an entire row of teeth.

Dr. Palmer helps each unique patient determine what type of porcelain veneers will provide the most aesthetically pleasing result. He will take into consideration the patient’s:

  • Facial structure
  • Skin tone
  • Age
  • Existing teeth

When all parties are satisfied with the direction the procedure will go, Dr. Palmer will prepare the teeth to receive the porcelain veneers by removing a small amount of tooth enamel so the veneers will fit properly and look and feel natural.

An impression is then made of the prepared teeth, which is sent to the dental laboratory for the production of the veneers. At River Bluff Dental, we place our trust in Westland Dental Lab to create the perfect porcelain veneers for our patients.

Dr. Palmer places a temporary veneer on the teeth so the patient’s lifestyle is not interrupted while waiting for the custom made porcelain veneers to be created.

When the porcelain veneers are ready, the patient will return to our River Bluff Dental office so the temporary veneers can be removed and the new ones checked for precise fit and color. If the result is acceptable, Dr. Palmer will bond the new porcelain veneers to the teeth using bonding cement and a special hardening light.
