Preventative Care - Teeth Cleanings
Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eden Prairie, and Edina, Minnesota
The success of any cosmetic dentistry procedure is reliant upon the patient’s willingness to follow good oral hygiene habits. Equally important is maintaining a balanced diet. Without these components, along with regular dental visits, your smile will suffer.
At River Bluff Dental, we want your teeth to stay healthy so you can preserve as much of your natural teeth and the supporting structures as possible. Dr. Walter Palmer and his professional team of dental hygienists provide preventative dental care to prevent the onset, progress and recurrence of dental conditions and diseases.
Preventative Dental Care
River Bluff Dental offers a full regimen of preventative dental care to prepare teeth to undergo cosmetic dental procedures. It is recommended that patients visit the dentist every six months for a full dental exam, which can include:
- Teeth cleanings to remove plaque and tartar build-up
- X-rays to detect tooth decay, tumors, cysts and bone loss as well as determine tooth and root positions
- Dental sealants (thin plastic coatings) to protect the chewing surfaces of teeth from decay
- Fluoride treatment to strengthen teeth against decay
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum disease evaluation
Do Your Part at Home
It is not just enough to visit the dentist twice a year. Daily attention to your teeth will keep your teeth in the best shape possible between office visits. Get into the habit of brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day to remove harmful bacteria and plaque build-up on the teeth and gums.
The right way to brush:
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or an electric toothbrush
- Gently brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums
- Use small circular motions
- Brush all surfaces of the tooth: inner, outer and biting surfaces
- Use the toothbrush tip to brush the inside of the front teeth
- Brush your tongue to remove bacteria
The right way to floss:
- Use sufficient dental floss so you can wrap it around one finger in each hand, leaving several inches in between to work between the teeth
- Gently curve the floss into a “C” shape around each tooth and under the gum line
- Gently guide the floss up and down along the side of each tooth and under the gumline
Preventative dental care helps avoid serious and costly dental problems. If you want to have healthy, beautiful teeth so you can smile with confidence, make preventative dental care a priority in your life.
